Today it was book character day.  I went as Peter Pan.

The year 4's went to the beach to clean up for the community.

I am learning how to tell the time on an analogue clock.  It was difficult to know where the hands go.  I am proud that I know how to tell the time.  Next I will keep practising my analogue time.

My Photograph

This is the photograph my group took from a worms eye view looking up on a small plant. I really enjoyed taking photos. I would like to do it again.

Maths Olympiad

This is my group in the Maths Olympiad. We didn't win, but it was still really fun! We got stuck on a few hard questions, but teamwork always helped us do it. It was really fun being chosen to be in the Maths Olympiad. Hopefully I will get chosen again.

What's a Pencil?

What's a pencil you ask, well...

A pencil is an object that is made of wood from a tree and lead.

You can write with it and you can draw pictures with it.

Pencils become very small when you sharpen them.

There are different types of pencils, for example :

colouring pencils, writing pencils and more!

People use pencils to do their homework.

Pencils sometimes have painted patterns on them and some are just plain!

Some pencils are hexagon shaped and others are round like a cylinder.

Did you know that pencils used to be feathers and you had to dip them in ink!

My Reflection

I was learning how to write an explanation.  It was tricky to explain what pencils are used for.  I am proud that I now know how to explain what an object is.  Next I will use this skill to explain what another object is, or even an animal!

Features of a Non-fiction Text

NON-FICTION TEXT!!!

I am learning about the features of a Non-fiction text.  

What is a contents page?

A content page is the beginning of the book and it tells you what's in the book.  

What's an index?

An index helps when you want to know about something but it doesn't say where it is in the content page.  

What's a glossary?

A glossary tells you what words mean that are highlighted dark in the book.  

What's a diagram?

A diagram is a picture with labels that tell you what the thing they are pointing at are.

Why are there more photographs than pictures?

there are more photographs than pictures because some drawings might not have some special details.

Why are there maps?

A map shows where what ever it is the book is about is.

My Reflection

I was learning to find important information from a non-fiction text.  I found it difficult to try not to copy and do it in my own words.  I am proud that I know more and I understand non-fiction texts.  Next time I am going to use this skill for a different book.

Fractions

I was learning to recognise fractions of shapes and groups.  I found it tricky finding out which is a numerator and which is a denominator.  I am proud that I know half, quarter, thirds and a few more.  Next I want to start learning more about bigger fractions. 

3D Shapes

I was learning about 3D Shapes. I found it difficult to count the edges and the corners without counting the same edge or the same corner a second time. My favourite part of this was counting the corners,edges and faces even though it was difficult. I found it really fun and I would really like to do it again.

2D Shapes

I was learning about 2D shapes. We had to count how many angles and how many sides the shape has. I found it really fun doing this. Maybe we'll do it again.

Te Tuhi

This is me making my dream house out of shapes at Te Tuhi.  It's so much fun! 

Bike Skills

This is me riding the bike at bike skills.  It's so fun!

Multiplication And Division

I am learning to solve multiplication and division problems.  This is the strategy I am using.  I must learn my multiplication and division tables.

I was learning about nouns, adjectives and verbs.  It was difficult to know which was what type of word.  I am proud that I got enough words for it.  Next  I'm going to use them more in my writing.

The Blue Whale!!!

I was learning to find important information from a non-fiction text.  I found it difficult to try not to copy and do it in my own words.  I am proud that I finally finished it and that now I know more about the blue whale.  Next time I'm going to use this skill for a different book.

Subtraction

I was learning to split up the numbers in my subtraction equations. 

Reflection

At first it was difficult to know what to take away and what to add. Now that I understand it more it is simpler. Next I want to try to do it with hundreds and thousands.

Lollie Lei

Room 14 had an awesome time making the lollie leis for the school gala! It was difficult to put the lollies in the right order. It was easy to do the knots between each lollie. Next time I'll try to put the lollies in the right order. I hope we do the lollie leis again. It was fun.

Something Strange Going On

I am learning to calculate the answer to my addition equations.

I used a Stage 5 strategy to solve the equation. Next time I want to learn and use different strategies.

Reflection

I was learning to use descriptive words in my writing.  It was difficult to use lots of different nouns, verbs, adverbs and adjectives. I am proud of my three 'ing' words that I have used.  Next I could go back and check it.
